Are You Excited?

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given;” (Isaiah 9:6a)

Christmas is my favorite time of year and has been for as long as I can remember. As I think back on Christmas’ as a young boy, I remember the excitement of getting ready for Christmas: decorating the tree, shopping for gifts for others, programs at church, Christmas Caroling, hayrides, gatherings with family and friends, and the anticipation of Christmas morning.

I could hardly sleep the night before, and most years I would get up at 4 or 4:30 to sneak into our living room to see what was under the tree. I was never disappointed, as Daddy and Mother seemed to always find a way for “Santa” to come through. The Christmas that was the most meaningful was the year I got my first real Bible, when I was 8 years old. I don’t remember anything else from that year, but I remember getting that Bible and how much it meant to me, and I still have that Bible today.

When I was 9, I gave my life to Jesus. The awe and wonder, the real meaning of Christmas, came alive to me. As I felt the tug of Jesus on my heart, I received the greatest gift ever given.

It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season, and lose sight of the real why behind it all. This Christmas, take time to pause, reflect, ponder, and to get excited again. Let the Christ of Christmas become more real to you than ever. After all, He truly is the reason for the season. The greatest gift ever given was born in that stable in Bethlehem, and just as He changed the lives of Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds that night, He is still changing the lives of people today.

May this be the best Christmas of your life because of Jesus!
