Tangled Up

January 29, 2018 // Denise Boggs

As we go about our daily life, it is easy to get caught by the thorn bushes and tangled up in briars with
everyday conversations. The snare I’m talking about is that of coming into agreement with negativity. It
reminds me of a walk through the woods that I recently had with my grandsons. Even though I was on a well beaten path through, I still got snared by vines and caught by briar bushes. It is just part of a walk in the woods – you have to stop frequently and get untangled.

As we go through life we encounter negative people and can easily get tangled up in fault finding,
grumbling, and complaining. Take my walk through the woods for example: I was not caught by briars in the backyard, it was when I got into in the woods. So, we must be observant to where we get caught up in
negativity. In these certain places, we have to stop and get untangled just like we do when we take a
walk in the woods. In Philippians 2:13-15 Paul makes it clear that complaining contaminates our soul.

“For it is [not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight. Do all things without grumbling and fault-finding and complaining, and questioning and doubting [among yourselves], That you may show yourselves to be blameless and guileless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish (faultless, unrebukable) in the midst of a crooked and wicked generation [spiritually perverted and perverse], among whom you are seen as bright lights (stars or beacons shining out clearly) in the [dark] world…” (Philippians 2:13-15 AMPC)

It is God that is working in us to carry out His will on the earth, but we have to carry out His will without being contaminated by the negativity of the world. We cannot begin grumbling and complaining about the assignment. The goal is to walk among a crooked and perverse world with frequent stops to spend time with God and get untangled from negativity.
